Lovers Leap Engagement Session | Strawberry, California | Merrill + Jayson

“Jayson and I have not had any experience in the photo department, we are usually struggling to get a selfie or 2 on our road trips. We were really excited to get some pictures of us other than selfies! We were also really excited to have a winter feel for the engagement session. We almost decided to book a winter wedding, but decided on Spring instead, so getting to have the engagement photos in winter was wonderful. I'm sure we were both anticipating feeling a bit awkward with posing for photos, but that really wasn't the case at all after meeting Elsa and getting the session started. She made it so fun and comfortable, we had a blast!”-Merrill

First of all: Thank you so much for the sweet words. You two made this session feel effortless. You’re both so sweet and photogenic ;)

Second of all: I’m obsessed with these photos! Lovers Leap is one of my favorite areas and Merrill and Jayson are so cool. Enjoy a peak of their engagement photos!

About the proposal: “Jayson made me work (run) for it! We were in Yosemite celebrating my Grandma's 90th birthday. The day we arrived, Jayson suggested a jog out to Mirror Lake. When we got there, the sun was almost set and Half Dome was looming large. Little did I know, Jayson had with him a beautiful proposal ring that he had a jeweler friend make out of quartz crystal I had found in Northern California. Right before we we started our run back to the Lodge, Jayson got down on one knee and proposed. I said YES of course! That sure made the run back to the Lodge fast since we were so excited to tell and celebrate with our family.”-Merrill

Getting to start of the session with this cute little bus was such a treat!

About their wedding: “…We were really interested in getting married at Twenty Mile House, and were able to visit the venue right after getting engaged over Thanksgiving. The visit surpassed our (high) expectations and we booked on the spot. Because of Jayson's teaching schedule, spring break was a really good option for us. Which left less than 5 months to plan everything. I think that's actually helped, though, because we make thoughtful but quick decisions and move on to the next item. By having an all inclusive venue, we are also able to really focus our time on adding some personal touches to our wedding.” -Merrill

Side-note (not surprising at all): I LOVE TWENTY MILE HOUSE. I can’t wait to go back this year!

Where did Merrill and Jayson meet?!

“A true sign of the times, we met on Tinder! Our first date lasted 4 hours as we talked over a couple beers. We had so much in common and really clicked right away.”

Few fun facts:

“Jayson and I are animal lovers, we have 2 golden retrievers and a pet snake. Jayson teaches first grade and plays old time tunes on the banjo. I also play (sing/guitar) and write music.”

Check her stuff out! She’s so good: http://merrillburch.com

Shout out to Jayson’s mom for taking care of the pups during the session.

Future goals: “More pets?! OK maybe not, but we are very much looking forward to continuing to enjoy every day life, house projects, travel, and one day, growing our family.”

Note to M& J: I’m so excited to be your third wheel in a few months! I have no doubt it’s going to be out of this world special . Looking forward to meeting your friends and family. See you in a few months!! -Elsa B

Virginia City, NV Engagement Session | Amber + Ben

“Ben and I knew we would get married for a while now, so our proposal was more of a discussion. Mind you, I was taking a bath when he asked.”

I love how simple and lovely their connection is. Enjoy a peak of their engagement photos in Virginia City, NV.

Fun fact about both of them:

“His mom has been passively trying to get us together for years and neither of us took her seriously ever…didn’t really feel a connection until we had both gone through quite a few life changes.”

They’re both from Alabama and have been in the area for a year and a half.

About Amber: First of all she’s so sweet and quirky. I’ve enjoyed all our interactions. I’m so excited for her weekday wedding next year (I LOVE WEEKDAY WEDDINGS). She’s also in the process of opening up a tattoo studio: “The name is lucid dreams and we will be opening mid January or February here in Fernley . I've always wanted to open a studio that the community felt welcome in, where we will not only produce quality body art, but maybe teach classes regarding studio art, hold non profit events, art galleries, eventually cultural events as well, and above all else provide a clean safe environment to get body art in our small town. The name is a little goofy but eventually I want anyone who comes into the shop to really embrace their dreams and explore their own creativity…”

About Ben: “Ben was a Marine for 5 years…he has a huge hat collection. Currently works for Tesla and despite the ruggedness is a huge softy…he is a hard worker and has been so his whole life and that he is the most generous guy I know. He only wants the people he cares about to feel special, safe, and taken care of. He never discourages my or anyone else's dreams.”

So what does the future hold for these two? They’re planning an epic weekday wedding and they just want to help each other and enjoy what ever life has in store for them.

These are a few of my favorite images from our time together.

After walking around Virginia City we finished off the session at 6 Mile Canyon for sunset!

Thanks for letting me document you two! Can’t wait for your big day-Elsa B

Location: Amber and Ben had their engagement session at Virginia City and 6 mile Canyon Road (a road between Dayton and Virginia City).

Cave Rock Anniversary Photos | Rainey & Andrew

Rainey and Andrew traveled from Texas for a week long family vacation in Lake Tahoe. There session consisted of two parts: family photos and anniversary photos. We started with the whole family and then the three of us broke away to take some couples photos for their two year anniversary! Enjoy a peak of their couples photos!

How did Rainey and Andrew meet? “We actually met in 1st grade. We were in the same class. We “dated” in junior high (7th and 8th grade) and we were each other’s first kiss! We broke up shortly the same year (…{because} we were 12 and it things happen). He moved schools and we lost touch for 6 years. 6 years later I saw him at the local mall, I hid behind a rack of clothes in the store because I was so embarrassed to see my first kiss from 7th grade. Because I had seen him that day, I checked out his Twitter. I “favorited” a tweet he had just made just for the fun of it. After that, he direct messaged me and asked for my number. We started texting and he asked me to go catch up. We went to dinner and a movie and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I wasn’t sure if it was just catching up as old friends or a date. We went to dinner and a movie; and it was absolutely a date. We have been together since that date :). Once we started actually dating- I found out he had apparently seen me at the mall that day, looked back, and I was suddenly gone (because I was hiding) haha! We’ve been together for 6 years, and married for 2.”

About Rainey:

  • She’s a 7th grade teacher…”I’ve always wanted to be. I always played teacher growing up…I teach at the same 7th and 8th grade school that me and my husband “dated” at.”

  • “I’ve lived in the same small town in Texas my entire life. Never moving more than 3 streets away from one another. (So has my husband).”

About Andrew:

  • He can play almost any musical instrument , he’s an amazing cook (he actually cooks all of their dinners), and Rainey says he’s an amazing singer!

Every once in a while, specifically in this location overlooking Cave Rock Beach, Lake Tahoe has a super rich tone to it. I hardly see it, unless I come to this spot. It remind me of the ocean. So beautiful.

Future Goals: “To have many more babies together, and to continue pushing each other towards our personal dreams!”

Rainey and Andrew are the sweetest. I hope they fill this world up with more cute babies!

Side-note: I’m hoping to release my family portfolio soon, so keep a look out for that in 2019 :)
