1. Pick a Location

An elopement is unconventional so the options are limitless! Think big. After all, you've decided on a more alternative wedding day so make it unique! Do you prefer a sandy beach or a rugged mountain? Do you want an easy approach (a 15-30 minute hike to a ceremony spot) or are you up for a longer hike for a more intimate wedding?

If you book a photographer and officiant, they’ll be able to give you more direction and options. Scroll all the way down to look at options!

2. Be a little extra

It’s time to maximize the epic-ness of your big day. You've already chosen the perfect ceremony location. Why stop there? Make sure to add a bonus adventure to your itinerary! Really dream big. What would make this day your DREAM day?

Summer Options

…include a kayak tour, paddle-boarding, helicopter ride, parasailing, private boat tour, jet ski adventure, a romantic cruise around the lake, or a hot air balloon ride!!

Winter Options

...include snowmobiling, ice skating at Northstar, sledding down a hill, a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride, helicopter ride or ski down Heavenly in your wedding attire!

More Adventurous Options

  • Lake Tahoe Balloons offers an inspiring ride above Lake Tahoe (2500 feet to be exact). The balloon is launched from the Lake so you’ll get a sweet boat ride.

  • Rock climbing! I might be a little biased with this option but I think this is the best way to experience Tahoe. Companies like Tahoe Adventure Company or Alpine Skills International will guide you through an unforgettable experience.

  • Tahoe Paddle & Oar has several guided tours. If you choose to tour along Crystal Bay make sure to stop at the hot-springs off Brockway Point.

3. Make it legal!

In regards to a Marriage License, it’s pretty simple! As soon as you have a location contact the County Clerk’s office. Application rules and fees vary.

Please note that some spots like state and national parks require a photography permit. Make sure to check this off your to-do list early. Ask your photographer if one will be needed.
