a desi wedding in the mountains for Prathima and Jonathan

Prathima and Jonathan’s wedding was completely mesmerizing. It was pure, heart-bursting joy and color, from the traditional ceremony, to the outfit changes, to the sparkly lehenga twirls in the golden mountain light. It was such a treat to see all their hard work in designing and planning their wedding finally come to life.

Prathima’s energy was contagious. She didn’t hold back her excitement about the photos, which made me even more inspired to create something truly unique and artistic for her. And adding some b-roll film to the day was such a fun element!

For them, the day was a blur of emotion and magic. A highlight was the incredible energy during their traditional ceremony. The sound of laughter and excitement filled the air, setting the tone for the rest of the celebration.

Advice to future couples who are currently planning their wedding:

  • It’s all worth it. Every ounce of stress and struggle will pay off when you see it all come together.

  • The vendor team you choose will mean so much to your wedding day and they will feel like your best friends if you’ve done things right.

  • Get the fancy heels for photos and the dancing shoes to keep the reception floor going all night.

  • Treat every DIY, tasting and monthly to-do like its a special date night and wedding plan will be 1000% more enjoyable.

  • We met while Jonny was a wine chemist for Bogle which is why we stocked our wedding with Bogle wines. Our favorite winter beverage is mulled wine made with their Merlot.

  • I learned how to snowboard in 2020 at Sierra at Tahoe while Jonny patiently skiied laps around me and every year after Palisades was our home resort.

  • We did a group photoshoot and bikini run at palisades to celebrate graduating veterinary school and they are the second most iconic photos I’ve taken (next to my wedding day) - Jonny was the photographer on skis!

  • We love to cook -- the recipes given to Chef Sarah at our wedding are actually inspired by our family dinners with our UC Davis friend group. The sauce recipe for the chicken tikka came from my friend Sunny’s mom. Sunny passed away from Glioblastoma last year and these foods keep many of us connected to her.

Then came that unforgettable moment, spinning in her sparkly lehenga against the mountain backdrop as the valley light hit just right. It was pure magic.

“Jonny custom made every single DIY for the wedding after I showed him yet another Tik tok inspiration : the name plates with an image of tram face , custom matchboxes , Wilbur drink stir sticks, linen welcome signs and bar signs etc. Jonny is the cricut wizard now” - Prathima

Later in the evening, they stole a quiet second at their sweetheart table to take it all in. with friends laughing, glasses clinking, music pulsing, and a room full of love. And of course, there were dance floor highlights galore: belting out Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need” like no one was watching and absolutely nailing the bridesmaid and groomsmen dances that had the whole crowd cheering.

With every passing day, life gets sweeter and more full of love. We are so endlessly thankful for the community around us because we would not be where we are today without our families, our bridal parties and all of the people who shared our special day with us. - P&J
